The Franciscan Missionary Sisters for Africa is an international missionary congregation founded by Teresa Kearney, also known as Mother Kevin or Mama Kevina.

Our members make a life-long commitment and live according to the Rule of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis of Assisi.  Spirituality, Ministry and Community are major values for us.

In the spirit of the Gospel, we have a particular concern for those in need and those who live on the margins of society. Although we are spread across three Continents, mission among the African peoples has always been a primary focus for us.

As every family is unique, so every congregation in the Church has its own special gift or charism that is uniquely its own.  This following Statement expresses how we see our Charism: 

Our Sisters are currently in Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, England, Scotland, America and Ireland.  

As missionaries it has always been our aim to hand over our works/ministries to local people when they are ready to take over from us.  We move on...

Among the works handed over to local Sisters and dedicated lay people over the years are:

• Montessori, Primary and Secondary Schools, Teacher Training, Schools for the Blind and the Handicapped.

• Hospitals, Maternity Centres, Schools of Nursing, Clinics and Leprosy Hospitals.

• Self-help groups such as Women's Agricultural Co-Operatives and Craft Centres.
